Foreign Secretary Douglas Hurd is to make a statement in the House of Commons later today about the forcible repatriation of Vietnamese boat people. Both Labour and Liberal Democrat MPs have condemned the operation which began in Hong Kong last night. Liberal Democrat leader Paddy Ashdown says the forcible repatriation amounts to a shameful act.
