Former Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger responds to suggestions that the release of the American hostages by Iran would be timed to maximise the chances of Jimmy Carter winning the election. It is said that Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini would prefer a Democrat government. Newsweek magazine puts Carter 1 percent ahead in the polls.
