John Ferguson reports on Ireland’s decision to join the European monetary system and the preparatory measures it is taking. Director-General of the Confederation of Irish Industry, Liam Connellan says the greatest challenge that industry faces is increasing its production. Economist Dr Seamus Sheehy, University College Dublin, says unions will need to modify their wage demands to keep interest levels down. Irish Minister for Economic Planning, Martin O’Donoghue says a lot depends on the British Government in relation to exchange rates with the British pound.
