- Description
- The freezing of Iranian assets in the USA has enraged Iranians. US Treasury Secretary, G William Miller says the decision was not taken to put hostages in difficulty. US State Department spokesman Hodding Carter III says any Security Council meeting will necessarily be held in the shadow of the hostage-taking, and the US will not discuss Iran’s wishes until the hostages are released. Members of the banking community are afraid that President Carter may be overreacting. John Carrigan, professor of economics at the University of Minnesota, says the freezing will not help the American banking system and will lead to mistrust on the part of other countries. The reporter is Andrew Manderstam.
