- Description
- Peter Spencer presents Review of the Decade, namely, the Thatcher years. Includes speeches by Margaret Thatcher, a review of her leadership qualities, and the criticism she received for what opposition members called bossiness. The Falklands War is discussed, along with Labour opposition to it (not least from Leo Abse MP) and US President Ronald Reagan’s defence of Thatcher. Tam Dalyell MP comments on the same subject, condemning the Americans. Leon Brittan and Neil Kinnock speak on the Conservative Party conference bombing. Thatcher’s relationship with Kinnock is explored. Sir Anthony Meyer’s unsuccessful challenge for Tory party leadership also comes under scrutiny. Other subjects touched upon include Derek Hatton and the Militant Left, the Westland affair, and the NHS. Final comment goes to Labour’s campaign coordinator, Jack Cunningham.
