Terry Gallacher [qv] recalled that the cameraman Tony Chapman was hired by Movietonews in about 1962 ‘to work exclusively for United Press within the UPMT [United Press Movietonews Television] agreement.' He was this in a similar position to Jim Godfrey [qv] and Peter West [qv]. In October 1963 United Press ended its agreement with Movietone and formed UPIN. However, it retained close links with Movietone, and Gallacher recalled that ‘cameramen Tony Chapman, Peter West and Jim Godfrey were paid by Movietone and worked for UPI who, under their new regime became known as United Press International Newsfilm (UPIN).' Chapman thus appears in the Movietone staff list for January 1964, and is also credited for ‘TRAIN OF TOMORROW’ in British Movietone News No.1826 of June 1964. He filmed 35mmm stories for Movietone, and 16mm stories for UPIN. Chapman remained with Movietonews until 1967, when United Press ended its association with the company, and he then became a freelance cameraman, and afterwards a producer.
