Career

Henry (Bunny) Austin was twice a Wimbledon finalist in men’s singles and for ten of eleven years he reached the quarterfinals. He was ranked second in the world in 1931 and 1938 and remained in the world’s top ten from 1928-38. He was Great Britain’s number one ranked player from 1926-32 and 1937-38. Austin, the first player to wear shorts in 1932, was a charismatic player who inspired good sportsmanship on and off the court.

In September 1935, he commentated on ‘TENNIS’ in British Movietone News No.329. This is his only known newsreel credit.
