Career
Arthur Graham entered the film industry in 1930 as camera assistant for British International Pictures at Elstree Studios. He worked with them for five years as assistant cameraman and camera operator. In 1936 and 1937 he was camera operator with John Stafford Productions at Sound City, and in May 1937 was almost certainly the ‘Graham’ credited in the camera team which filmed ‘THE CORONATION OF THEIR MAJESTIES KING GEORGE VI AND QUEEN ELIZABETH’ for Pathe Super Sound Gazette No.37/38. In 1938 and 1939 Graham acted as lighting cameraman on a series of documentaries, but in 1940 he joined the Army Film Unit. The War Office still photographer J. Allan Cash recalled working with Graham in North Africa early in 1942, when they both covered the attack on Sollum and the official surrender. Graham’s footage was included in ‘FALL OF HALFAYA’ in Pathe Gazette No.42/12 of February 1942. In November 1942 the Cine-Technician reported that Lieutenant Arthur Graham, who ‘has been serving in the Middle east with the Army Film Unit for quite a while and has sent back some first-rate stuff,' has been reported missing. Graham was apparently safe, however, and on demobilisation in 1946 he continued his career as cameraman on a range of projects.
