Career
Alan Birkenshaw was a cameraman for the ‘New Commonwealth’ versions of London Line (1964-1978), a magazine programme produced by the Central Office of Information [qv] for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office [qv]. These editions were shown in countries which had recently joined the Commonwealth, primarily in Africa and the Caribbean. He worked on one of the earlier issues, ‘Power Boat Special Awards’ London Line No.220, released in 1969. He is also credited as cameraman for later issues of London Line (Colour Series 2) a similar programme which was produced primarily for the United States, Canada and Australia. His earliest credit on this series was for ‘Theatres’ London Line (Colour Series 2) No.66, released in 1969. He is also credited for a single issue of the COI science magazine series Living Tomorrow (1969-1983), ‘Students Make Jewellery’, Living Tomorrow No.76, released in 1971.
