Career
Bill Short was employed by Kay Laboratories, and for many years painted the Movietone title cards by hand. Terry Gallacher [qv], who joined Movietone in October 1945, recalled that ‘his style is so distinctive that those of us who knew his work could spot it in a moment’: ‘He was a delightful man who had infinite latience. He seldom made a mistake himself, but he often had to re-do work because Movietone editors changed their minds, or themselves had made a mistake.' Short apparently worked on British Movietone News title cards during the Second World War, and continued working well into the 1950s.
