Career

Frank McLachlan was the Scottish representative of Gaumont British News, who continued working for them as a cameraman after the outbreak of war in 1939. In March 1941 McLachlan collaborated with Ronald Jay [qv], Paramount’s Scottish representative, in filming the King’s visit to Glasgow for part of ‘THE KING AND QUEEN TOUR SCOTLAND’ in Gaumont British News No.749. After the war McLachlan may have transferred to Universal. In September 1945 McLachlan thus provided film for ‘ROYALTY IN SCOTLAND’ in Universal News No.1588 of October 1945, and in November 1945 he provided ‘MOSCOW DYNAMOS V GLASGOW RANGERS’ for Universal News No.1605 of December 1945. In May 1947 McLachlan worked with Stanley Russell [qv] to help Movietone film a football match in Glasgow, the result being ‘GREAT BRITAIN’S EASY WIN’ in British Movietone News No.936A.
