Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Sfax & Onwards. DESCRIPTION: There was a joyous welcome in Sfax for the liberating Eighth Army and the arrival of General Montgomery was cause for further rejoicing. The Allies continue their push across the Western desert forcing back the Germans and Italians. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Army transport crossing desert in dust storm. CU Crusader on move with 6 pounder guns. Also Lee tanks on move. Various shots of crowds (typically French) lining streets, throwing flowers about, waving flags, riding on army transport, tanks etc., pans of crowds. Elevated shot of Highlanders entering Sfax playing bagpipes (silent) & girls running in amongst them throwing flowers at them, various angle shots. CU Union Jack hoisted & CU two Sfax (old ladies) civilians look up at same. Crowds line route, Monty enter in car, standing acknowledging crowds. CU of him after getting out of car, receiving bouquets, & receiving various High Officials in Sfax, French & Arabian. CU Monty standing by FF (very good). GS of Flying Fortress, this is presented to him with crew, Monty climbs into FF & few shots inside, also of him at controls. Patrols passes through street, with black lamb running along by their side, & pan of hilly country, infantry making their way across same, over barbed wire, prisoners coming in escorted at bayonet point, & into camera. CU of few & groups, & walking out of camera. CU British Soldier of Tank Corps winking to finish. Crowds do V sign in cut story.
