The Spanish Civil War (1972)
British Universities Historical Studies in Film No. 3
Examines the media's presentation of the war in Britain and elsewhere, charting its course and major events. Included are the Generals' Revolt of July 1936, relief of the Alcazar in Toledo, the defence of Madrid, collapse of the Republic in the north, Franco's Aragon offensive, the fall of Catalonia and the end of the war. Special attention is paid to social, economic and religious factors, internal political development, the divisions on the Republican side and the consolidation of unity in the Nationalist camp.
