- Description
- Filmed over a year with the straight-talking staff and customers of one branch of NatWest, in West Yorkshire, this series lays bare the thorny relationship between us, the bank and our money.
High street banks sit at the very heart of our thorny relationship with money, deciding our savings, debts, mortgages and business loans - and even our hopes and fears. A branch of NatWest in the north of England has opened its doors, giving unprecedented access to the behind-the-scenes workings of one of our most important everyday institutions.
For better or worse, romantic and family relationships are often tangled up with money and the second episode of The Bank: A Matter of Life and Debt looks at what happens when finances and feelings collide. The staff at the Huddersfield branch see customers at all milestones of adult life - from the flush of young love, to settling down and starting a family, right through to old age. This is not to mention the staff themselves who between them have accumulated one engagement, three mortgages and three divorces during the past year.
In this episode, staff and customers alike open up about how they juggle their financial affairs with those of the heart and about who calls the shots with money in their home - from Victoria and Matthew, who have just moved in together and want to open a joint account to test out their relationship, to Helen, who is working through her financial situation following a divorce, to Kevin, who is looking after his father’s pension money so the 79 year old can go looking for love in Africa and deputy bank manager Claire, who is living at home until she and her boyfriend can afford to get on the property ladder. - Genre
