- Sports science has changed immeasurably in the last 20 years, and what the series seeks to explore is how that change has impacted on the world of professional sport, and what role it plays in creating exceptional athletes, does it define the difference between great and World beating athletes and is it the answer to achieving perfection in sport?
In our first of 2 fascinating episodes we’ll be following the path taken by athletes from birth to the elite start line.
In a relatively short space of time sporting performance has made huge improvements, but does this mean the human race is evolving Michael goes in search of answers, meeting leading sport’s science journalist David Epstein. We’ll head to Belgium to meet a unique family who are combining their natural genetic gifts with the latest scientific understanding to improve their performance. We’ll visit Michael Johnson’s performance lab to see how his team is using the latest technology and training to nurture young talent. We’ll go to the U20s rugby World Champs to discover why the New Zealand All Blacks are just so good.
Michael believes Paralympic sport is going to be bigger and bigger in the future, so we’ll join the Brazilian Paralympics team as they prepare for the biggest sporting event of their lives and how the latest technology is having an incredible impact on their sport. But what lies ahead in this technological age, Michael heads to his home town of San Francisco to test out some of the latest wearable technology to see how that might enable training to be even more effective for all athletes. - Genre
