Around £612 million was lost to investment fraud last year, according to Action Fraud. These fraudsters trick people into thinking they are putting their money into a financial scheme that will grow, such as cryptocurrency, when in fact they are just taking off with their cash. And now, criminals are using some famous faces to try and gain the trust of the public. After discovering her image was being used in this way, our very own Helen Skelton is finding out more and speaks to one woman who ended up over £20,000 in debt when she bought into a fake investment opportunity she thought was being promoted by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, she also learns about how the scam works with help from The Open University.
