Description
In this edition of ‘Well Connected’, Mariella Frostrup discovers how new technology is making art more accessible to the public, and providing a new creative medium for artists.
She meets British pop artist, Duggie Fields, a painter who has added a computer to the tools of his trade. He now uses technology in the creation of his canvases, designs purely digital works, and displays his entire back catalogue in a virtual gallery on the web.
Tate Britain opens up its vaults to shed some light on its hidden art treasures. In a plan to make the whole collection more accessible, staff are scanning 50,000 works onto computer, and making their images available on the internet.
Finally a group of pioneering art curators give Mariella a guided tour through their own ground-breaking gallery. All the works here exist purely on the internet, and use the web’s interactive potential to engage and involve art viewers in the works.
