- Description
- The working class worked. It’s right there on the tin. From the dark days of the industrial revolution to the hairnets and rubber gloves of the factory line, it was the workers that made Britain great. But what happened to those teeming communities of hardworking men and women, proud of who they were and what they did? Does anyone even call themselves working class anymore? Fiercely proud of his own working class identity, Paul O’Grady is on a mission to find out what has happened to his tribe. In episode one of a major two part series for BBC1, Paul O’Grady goes on a very personal journey through the history of the British working class. From the terraced streets of his childhood in Birkenhead all the way to the Clyde in Glasgow, he finds out about the factories and mines that were at the heart of working class life, and what happened when they disappeared. Along the way Paul meets the brilliant, funny and warm-hearted people of Britain who are keeping the culture and pride of the working class alive. He also tries his hand at some honest graft, to find out if any of that fierce sense of community and pride has survived the huge changes the working class has faced.
