Episode 2 ' Duke Street, Glasgow
Broadcast Info
2014 (58 mins)
Description
Duke Street is Britain’s longest street, running through the heart of Glasgow’s East End. Elegant Victorian tenement blocks line the road to the South. Yet if the City’s planners had had their way, these homes would have all been demolished, and their residents shipped out of the area. That these fine honey’clouded stone buildings still survive, is testament to a pioneering group of neighbours who took on the might of the Corporation, in an epic David and Goliath struggle.
