SHAKESPEARE

Synopsis

Nigel Alexander, University of Nottingham, and Nicholas Brooke, University of East Anglia, discuss the complexities of what is often considered as a straightforward ‘romantic’ tragedy. This play functions on different levels of realism and artificiality and culminates in an ‘inevitable’ tragic outcome determined by accident and chance.
