Stage Designs of Leslie Hurry, The

Synopsis
Leslie Hurry produced the stage designs for some 60 plays, operas and ballets between 1942 and his death in 1978. His first commission was Robert Helpmann’s ballet Hamlet and as a designer for the Royal Shakespeare Company he was responsible for three productions of King Lear for John Gielgud. Many of the designs and production photographs are reproduced here for the first time. Also featured is Hurry’s Canadian work, unknown to the British public, and schemes which he did not complete, including a Macbeth for William Gaskill at the Royal Court and Mazeppa for Boston Opera, on which Hurry was working when he died in 1978.
