Campanadas a Medianoche
- Alternative title
- Falstaff: Chimes at Midnight
- Synopsis
- The story of Falstaff’s friendship with Prince Hal, and his rejection when the Prince becomes King, adapted chiefly from Shakespeare’s Henry IV Parts I and II, but also Richard II, Henry V and The Merry Wives of Windsor. The commentary taken from Holinshed’s Chronicles, is narrated by Ralph Richardson. Welles is Falstaff, John Gielgud is Henry IV and Keith Baxter plays Hal.
This is a fine expression of Welle’s lifelong obsession with Shakespeare (The Guardian, 2019). - Language

- Bridget Gellert Lyons (ed.). Chimes at Midnight (New Brunswick/London: Rutgers University Press, 1988). The continuity script. The volume also contains a biography, interviews, reviews and a filmography.
Rosenthal, Daniel. 100 Shakespeare Films. (London: British Film Institute, 2007), p. 54-6). Rosenthal writes ‘Welles’ magpie approach ensures that Chimes should never be recommended to anyone seeking a comprehensive version of the Henry IV plays. One doubts that anyone will ever capture their essence with greater or more effective economy’.
