Book Programme, The [12/11/1980]
- Synopsis
- Series on literature presented by Robert Robinson. This episode includes an item in which Robinson introduces Judith Cook’s book Women in Shakespeare. An interview with historian and literary scholar A.L. Rowse follows in which he talks of the probable identity of the Dark Lady of the Sonnets whom he thinks may be Rosalyn in Love’s Labour’s Lost and a mistress of Shakespeare. He argues that only in Romeo and Juliet is there any immediate sexual passion. Actor Norman Rodway reads (in voice-over) Enorbarbus’ speech from Antony and Cleopatra - ‘The barge she sat in like a burnished throne’. Paul Rogers reads an extract from Cook’s book.
