Housewife, Superstar!
- Synopsis
- A sound recording of Barry Humphries’ (as Dame Edna Everage) 1976 one-man stage show Housewife, Superstar! at the Globe Theatre, Shaftesbury Avenue, London. Includes dialogue in which Dame Edna satirises Shakespeare and the Elizabethan theatre. ‘This is the Globe, darlings. Isn’t it wonderful, the Globe! It’s oozing, ravaged by pageant and pomp. Little Shakespeare himself used to jump around this stage, dressed up as a woman most of the time, not that it proves a thing these days. The thing is - I’ve got a lot of time for Shakespeare, a lot of time. I love his shows - ‘To Be Or Not To Be’, ‘Lend Me Your Ears’, ‘Paint Your Wagon’.
