Man in Grey, The

Synopsis
Feature film. Costume melodrama, told in flashback, and based on the novel by Lady Eleanor Smith. A gypsy fortune teller warns Regency beauty Clarissa that her friendship with downtrodden actress Hesther will be disastrous. The prediction is proved right as the two women meet up years later at a finishing school and become involved with the sadistic Lord Rohan and gentleman-turned-highwayman Rokeby, with the inevitably tragic results. In one brief scene, on the way to the theatre, where by chance Clarissa has discovered that Hesther is appearing, she is held up by a highwayman, Rokeby, whom she is later intrigued to recognise on stage playing Othello to Hesther’s Desdemona.
