- General
- The original stage production Otello (da Shakespeare) Secondo Carmelo Bene was performed in January 1979 at the Teatro Quirino di Rome. It was then filmed in the RAI studios at Torino from Oct. 10 to Nov. 11, 1979. with the same cast and director. This production, intended for television, was shot with 5 cameras in Turin with all cameras linked to video recordings so that the director could edit it all in post-production like a movie instead of ‘live’ video editing in the studio which was still very much the norm (here and there). Michelangelo Antonioni was called in to help with the editing (he was just getting interested in video technology). Bene never finished editing and it wasn’t shown on television until 20 years later when he and a colleague got RAI’s late-night Education arm interested and edited it to his satisfaction, not long before his death in 2002.
