Richard the Second: How to Kill a King
- Synopsis
- Educational series. One in a twelve-part series of films made by the Ontario Educational Communications Authority (now TV Ontario). The aim was to relate ‘Shakespeare’s timeless ideas and understanding of human motivations to contemporary society’. The press information from NBC Educational Enterprises records that the film ‘illustrates a recurring historical situation: the position of the mighty is always precarious; rebellion and assassination are constant threats to the statesman’. The reasons for Richard’s fall from power and Bolingbroke’s success are discussed by the commentator.
