Synopsis
Radio programme presented by Farquharson Small on the history of the Old Vic Theatre, its two female managers, Emma Cons (acting manager 1898-1912) and Lilian Baylis (manager 1912-37), and producer-director Tyron Guthrie. The programme includes personal recollections from people who knew Baylis well, such as Evelyn Williams (secretary), Dame Sybil Thorndike (actress), and Harcourt Williams (producer). The programme is illustrated by recorded Shakespeare performances from reknowned members of the Old Vic Company, including Ralph Richardson, Laurence Olivier, and Peggy Ashcroft.
