- Synopsis
- Radio programme. Sir Frank Benson recites from Hamlet, Antony and Cleopatra, Henry V, Romeo and Juliet, and Othello. Recitals alternate with selections of "appropriate musical numbers" (The Times programme listings). These consisted of Roger Quilter’s Shakespearean songs ("It Was A Lover and His Lass", "Take, Oh Take Those Lips Away", "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind", "O Mistress Mine"), and Henry Rowley Bishop’s "Bid Me Discourse", sung by Ethel M. Stanley (mezzo-soprano) and Robert D. Strangeways (baritone). The Newcastle Wireless Orchestra plays music by Mendelssohn (incidental music for The Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Edward German (Henry VIII Dances).
