Chance of a Lunchtime
- Synopsis
- Sitcom centred on the wheeling and dealing of the Trotter brothers who run an ‘import export’ business from their South Peckham flat. In this episode Del’s wife Raquel, dreaming of a career on stage, secures an audition for the role of Rosalind. Del helps her learn her lines (III ii). Del overacts, playing Orlando as a hunchback, and Uncle Albert is dismissive of the endeavour believing ‘It’s only a bunch of nancy actors doing a play that no one can make head or tails of’. Del replies ‘You dozy old twonker, this is authentic culture, this stuff is’. Raquel is offered the part but it involves nine weeks of touring, bringing Shakespeare to the inner cities. Del encourages her to take her chance but she refuses announcing that she is pregnant and must forsake her dream to have Del’s child.
