Jack Benny Show, The [08/03/1942]

Alternative title
From San Diego Marine Base
Synopsis
Radio variety show. ‘Broadcast shortly after the release of TO BE OR NOT TO BE, guest Joan Bennett and regular Mary Livingston (Mary Benny) banter with Jack about his role as a famous Shakespearean actor. Bennett says she cannot believe Jack played Hamlet. He breaks out with a hammy reading of ‘to be, or not to be’, that is the question’. Livingston says ‘someone give him the answer, he does this every five minutes’. Bennett comments on how good his legs are in tights, and that everyone in Hollywood says they look better than Betty Grable’s. Jack says "oh, ho, so that’s why she’s been snubbing me lately" [Michael P. Jensen, Shakespeares After Shakespeare’ [op cit].
