Elmer the Great

Synopsis
Radio drama anthology series hosted by Cecil B. DeMille. ELMER THE GREAT is a radio version of Mervyn LeRoy’s 1933 film of the same name. In the interval DeMille spoke to guests. The third intermission guest was Max Reinhardt who the year before had directed Joe E. Brown (Elmer, in the film) in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM (1935). Reinhardt discusses issues around filming Shakespeare, saying he wanted to film Twelfth Night (a project never realised). Reinhardt also suggests that radio is an ideal medium for Shakespeare.
