Mister Shakespeare
- Synopsis
- Radio anthology drama series hosted by Ronald Colman. The series had the convention of asking celebrities to name their favourite story; the celebrity then appeared on the show to introduce the adaptation of it. In this episode Vincent Price plays William Shakespeare, Shakespeare being now in Hollywood where his talents are regarded as uncommercial. A film producer wants him to rewrite Romeo and Juliet as ‘Romeo Meets the Cat People’. Shakespeare reflects ‘after three centuries, I thought maybe people would learn to appreciate beautiful words without having them strung on stale plots. I was wrong’.
