Edgar Bergen and Charles McCarthy Show [09/11/1947]
- Synopsis
- Series featuring ventiloquist Edgar Bergen and his dummy Charley McCarthy. Charley and his chums plan to stage Romeo and Juliet in a barn but they need a star name to bring in the crowds so they ask Maurice Evans to play Romeo. They have to employ Lulu McConnell as Juliet because she owns the barn. Evans and Lulu rehearse the balcony scene; Lulu is so bad the show is called off. There are sundry ‘jokes’ arising from the misquotation of lines from other plays including Hamlet and The Merchant of Venice.
