Reviews
Burt, Richard (ed). Shakespeares After Shakespeares: an Encyclopedia of the Bard in Mass Media and Popular Culture. 2 vols. Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 2006. (p. 562 entry 2516). Lanier writes ‘The series was remarkable not just for focusing on the institutional situation of Shakespeare in an age of mass media but also for the ambivalence with which it treated its premise. As the representative Shakespearean, Montague is far more concerned with defending his dwindling cultural authority than actually defending the plays’.
