Synopsis
Fifth in a series of episodes, broadcast over five consecutive days, devoted to music inspired by Shakespeare’s plays. Peggy Reynolds presents the following pieces of music:
Locke’s "Curtain Tune" as performed by Il Giardino Armonico (director Giovanni Antonini); "Come Unto These Yellow Sands" and "Full Fathom Five" (anon.) are sung by Leslie French who is accompanied by an unnamed orchestra; Henze’s "Ariel" (Royal Winter Music I) is played by Julian Bream; Frederick Corder’s "Overture" from Prospero is performed by the English Northern Philharmonia (conductor David Lloyd-Jones); J. C. Smith’s "No More Dams I’ll Make For Fish" with Anthony Rolfe Johnson (tenor) and Graham Johnson (piano); Dankworth’s "Our Revel’s Are Now Ended" is performed by Cleo Laine, John Dankworth and musicians; the second movement of Beethoven’s Piano Sonata in D minor, Op 31 No 2, is played by Stephen Kovacevich.
