- Synopsis
- Feature film about a troupe of travelling players in Bulgaria at the turn of the twentieth century. The players give performances to the poor in rural areas; when the company becomes state-owned with a restrictive repertoire demanding artistic compromises, the company disintegrates, some players returning to the road. In one scene the troupe arrives to perform Othello, and when the actress playing Desdemona falls ill, a local schoolteacher steps in, later joining the troupe and becoming a leading lady.
