Synopsis
Educational videotape. Uses extracts, supplemented by research materials, from Tara Arts’ production Heer and Romeo, which toured schools and art centres in the Summer and Autumn of 1992. The original work, Heer Ranjha on which the touring version was based, was produced in collaboration with the Theatre Royal Stratford East. Described as an Indian Romeo and Juliet, it is an adaptation by Jatinder Verma of an 18th century Punjabi epic poem combining drama, music, dance and the use of mask.
