Hamlet
- Synopsis
- A televised version of Stemann’s acclaimed stage play. The production uses music from different periods and combines film and video with live performance. Stemann cut the text severely, and reduced the cast to the play’s seven principal figures who populate Katrin Nottrodt’s completely walled-in, steeply raked stage. The space contained two video monitors, with another up above the audience. The monitors remained on throughout the production, broadcasting video clipsparticularly scenes from Olivier’s HAMLETlive feeds of onstage action from a camcorder operated mostly by Hamlet, and, in between, static.
