Synopsis
The 40 CD box set consists of a collection of 28 radio adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays (including a recording of Sir Thomas More) produced and broadcast on German and Austrian public radio service stations between 1949 and 2001. The collection is comprised of the following recordings:
Romeo und Juliet (1949) with Klaus Kinski as Romeo
Othello (1983) with Rolf Boysen as Othello
Macbeth (1957) with Marianne Hoppe as Lady Macbeth
Hamlet (1963), produced in the GDR with Gerd Micheel as Hamlet
König Lear (1958) with Fritz Kortner as Lear and Bernahrd Minetti as Fool
Julius Cäsar (1962) with Willy Birgel as Caesar and Thomas Holtzmann as Brutus
Antonius und Cleopatra (1953) with Joana Maria Gorvin and Wilhelm Borchert in the title roles
Titus Andronicus (1986) with Romuald Pekny as Titus
Coriolan (1958) with Ullrich Haupt as Coriolanus
Timon von Athen (1954) with Ernst Schröder as Timon
Troilus und Cressida (1961) with Wolfgang Forester and Dinah Hinz in the title roles
Perikles, Fürst von Tyrus (1964) with Kurt Ebbinghaus as Gower
