Synopsis
US television interview series hosted by Patrick Watson. Producer and director Joseph Papp is interviewed about his career and the development of the New York Shakespeare Festival. He discusses his method of selecting shows to produce and states his belief that the theatre should not be an elitist institution. He describes seeing John Gielgud play Hamlet on Broadway in 1938 and how this performance inspired him to see the works of Shakespeare performed in American English.
