Merchant of Venice, The
- Synopsis
- A version of The Merchant of Venice. Ball surmises that Shylock may have been played by William V. Ranous who probably directed. The Moving Picture World (January 9 1909) noted ‘An ambitious film. The staging is exceptionally good, and this includes the costumes and all accessories. But some of the characters are weak. Shylock himself is not up to standard... In the main however the film is good and deserves a long run. It is a good representation for the money’.
