Sofies Verden
- Alternative title
- Sophie’s World
- Synopsis
- An epic fantasy film. Sophie (Silje Storstein) is a 15 year-old-girl who believes she is living an ordinary life but through an unusual set of circumstances realises she is not. She is in fact a fictional character from a novel called ‘Sophie’s World’. Once she realises this, with the help of her friend and teacher in philosophy Alberto Knox (Brömssen), Sophie tries to escape from the novel and sets out on an epic adventure. Sophie travels throughout European history and cultures from Ancient Greece to the present. In the Renaissance she meets Shakespeare where he is rehearsing an actor playing Hamlet. Shakespeare speaks to Sophie saying ‘to be, or not to be’, thus focusing on her own questions of identity and the meaning of existence.
