Romeo & Juliet Outreach Project: The Voice of the Jali, The
- Synopsis
- Video recording of the play written and directed by Josette Murray-Ballo and videotaped for WAPAVA by James J. Taylor. The performance formed part of a programme for teachers sponsored by the Folger to show techniques for making Shakespeare come alive in the classroom. Romeo and Juliet does not feature feuding families, but warring gangs. Male members of the cast wear T-shirts that read, ‘School of Hard Knocks’; they ride on the Metro, spar on the streets and demand respect with the weapons they carry.
