- British sculptor Eric Gill was so impressed with Leslie French’s performance in the same part at the Old Vic that he requested him as model for the figure of Ariel that he sculpted on the panel of the BBC Broadcasting House ('The B.B.C.'s "Ariel"', Radio Times, 20 February 1931, p. 412).
