Hamlet at the Symphony

Synopsis
Radio broadcast. As part of the ‘Morning Edition’ news programme, presenter David Bower talks to conductor John Mauceri about his performance of Shostakovich’s 1964 score for Kozintsev’s HAMLET as "a Hamlet tone poem, with words and music creating a drama to be performed by six actors and a symphony orchestra". Adapted by director Gerald Freedman and specially presented by the North Carolina Symphony and actors from the NC School of the Arts, this new interpretation was performed as part of a ‘Hamlet and Shostakovich’ Festival at the North Carolina Symphony, 11-16 February 2008.
