General
`Dunning, a visionary animator known best for YELLOW SUBMARINE (1968), had been working on THE TEMPEST, his most ambitious solo project, for five years before his death in 1979. Intended to be of feature length; these surviving images and knowledge of Dunnings’s extraordinary work from this period indicate that a uniquely beautifull Shakespeare film has been lost’ [McKernan, Luke and Olwen Terris. Walking Shadows: Shakespeare in the National Film and Television Archive. London: BFI, 1994, p.167].
