Uplift at the Local

Synopsis
British newsfilm. Othello acted in a public house. At a Public House in Carshalton a local amateur theatrical company (The Taverners) is giving a performance of Othello. Some of the cast in costume at the bar; shots of locals and cast drinking. Desdemona and Othello in the murder scene (V ii), the blacked-up Othello mostly seen in rear view. Audience seated at the bar, or at tables (mainly in their outdoor clothes) watching the performance. In one shot (probably staged) a male customer goes to the bar and requests ` a pint miss before he does ‘er in’ - more of the play. Cast take the curtain call. The commentator (Lionel Gamlin) concludes ‘A bit of uplift while you lift your elbow’.
