Synopsis
Produced for German television station ZDF, director Petr Weigl’s screen interpretation of Shostakovich’s opera is based on an abbreviated version of the Rostropovich/Vishnevskaya recording with the London Philharmonic that is used as the soundtrack for the operatic film, with lip-synching Czech performers providing the visual dimension.
