Hamlet: Shakespeare’s Second Version

Synopsis
Radio broadcast. Fourth of six talks by literary critic William Empson in which he discusses some of the problems of character and action raised by Shakespearean characters, such as Macbeth, Hamlet and Falstaff. In this episode Empson suggests that the inclusive text (Q1 and F2) of Hamlet may actually be a second, more extreme version of the originally fast-moving play that emphasises Hamlet’s procrastination.
